Week 7 around the SEC

October 16, 2009

Week 6 was brutal on Joe. I took it on the chin, in the gut, and I think a sucker punch to the kidney as well. You can tell we’re are full scale in conference action with surprises at Fayetteville and Tennessee last week.

This week sends the Razorbacks into the Swamp, the Gamecocks calling on Tuscaloosa, Georgia to Vanderbilt, and Kentucky limping into Jordan-Hare. Ole Miss tries to lick their wounds against UAB and the Bulldogs of Mississippi State take on Middle Tennessee. LSU rests up for Auburn’s visit on the 24th and Tennessee is probably making more rap videos while they rest up for ‘Bama.

Joe’s game of the week (excluding Auburn of course) is Arkansas versus THE FLORIDA. It would be something near a Tim Tebow bestowed miracle for the Razorbacks to repeat their blistering performance against Auburn last week again this weekend. The Gator defense is much too strong and complete to let Mallett sling the ball John Rambo style all over the Swamp. I still don’t think Arkansas possesses a threatening running game, despite our defense making them look as balanced as the cat in the hat. We’ll also see just how wide open the kinder gentler Urban Meyer will be with Saint Tebow. This should restore order to those who jumped on the resurgence of Petrino’s unit, but it may not do much to make folks think THE FLORIDA is dominating in their wins. The final score will be closer than the actual outcome, Arkansas 21, UF 31.

Steve Spurrier visits Nick $aban in the friendly, flea market like confines of Bryant Denny. It is a shame the ole ball coach hasn’t given us any bulletin board material in the week leading up to this game. In fact, you would almost think the Gamecocks want to take their “L” and just stay in Five Points. They’ll need the liquid courage Five Points offers in abundance on Sunday after UAT chases Garcia all over the field. USC 10, UAT 28

UGA versus Vanderbilt in the battle of a team nursing their pride while another still tries to build some. Georgia is acting as if 2012 were here already as they’ve watched this season get out of control early. Vandy lost in OT last week at West Point. What we have here are two teams desperate for a win and a second chance. I think Georgia wins by virtue of talent, but I don’t think this is a sight for sore Bulldog eyes. UGA 24, Vandy 21

The UAB Blazers visit Ole Miss who must surely be asking if there is a doctor in the house. Again, Joe never bought into the preseason hype and apparently others didn’t either. Assuming Jevan Snead gets it all together on Saturday, this should be a Rebel win. UAB 13, Ole Miss 28

Mississippi State takes their show on the road to the state of Tennessee’s version of StarkVegas to play Middle Tennessee. Um yeah, like what is there to do in Murfreesboro? About as much as Starkville, Mississippi: NADA. MSU 35, MTSU 17

Kentucky visits the Plains on Saturday for another night game. Jerry’s got the Q&A covered over at The War Eagle Reader and Joe gave props out yesterday for a similar piece. Joe’s own thoughts about the Tigers forthcoming….War Eagle!
