We were on a break!

December 9, 2009

What do we watch between now and Bowl season?

And now begins that long slow season of wait. The “real wait” which is obviously longer, is of course that time after A-day until kickoff in the fall. Auburn has 15 practice sessions between now and their January 1st date with the Northwestern Wildcats. School will be all but done for the semester this time next week, Christmas follows and then we’re into 2010.

But hold that thought. In the time since Auburn lost the Iron Bowl, we’ve had the potential future QB of the program suspended, a 4-star wide receiver decommit!, and the punishment meted out for the Big Cat Weekend.

Tucked away in all the awards talk was Coleman earning top billing and three more Tigers making the Coaches All SEC roster.

Shameless self promotion section. We’re so very close to 250 rabid facebook fans and we’re also now on Twitter. Join us on one or both and tell your friends!

The final basketball season in Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum is also underway, although in a 4 day swing, the men lose to Troy and upset Virginia. Glad to see our round ball team is predictably, unpredictable.

And in an Auburn blogger’s world you sometimes have to just say, “well done sir, well done.” Joe was all set to gripe about how disgusting Mark Ingram winning the Heisman Trophy is going to be. I was going to back it up with some jazzy numbers about Stanford’s bull of a RB, Gerhart and the move away from QBs by casting a vote for Nebraska’s one man wrecking ball, Suh. Yes, all set until I reached the mid-way point of Jerry’s “awards” post:

A HEISMAN RANT AND FISK WHILE WE’RE DISCUSSING POSTSEASON AWARDS

Let me say this first: Mark Ingram is a whale of a running back. His combination of power, balance, and vision is pretty much unmatched in current D-I; with the possible exception of Toby Gerhart, no one has made more yards from less space as consistently as Ingram. If he wins the Heisman, there will have been far, far more egregious mistakes by the Downtown Athletic Club, even in recent history. (Eric Crouch, anyone?)

And so ladies and gentlemen, if you want to read what my now deleted post might have looked like if it were much more detailed and laid out, go read it in its entire glority*.

Finally, if you’re into desktop backgrounds with an Auburn theme, choose your poison between football and mixed-sports December calendar and enjoy!
